Albatross One is a facsimile reprint of the first of many notebooks used by Dave Sim as he worked on the Cerebus comic book. It is a 1:1 reproduction of the original notebook, with no additions, notes or even publication information. It was made available on an on-demand basis in March, 2024.
Contents[]
As indicated on the cover, this notebook features sketches, layouts and other various pieces of developmental work covering Cerebus No. 20 through Cerebus No. 27. There are also several pages devoted to Howard the Duck, including the unfinished three-page story "Emergency 3:00 A.M."
Dave Sim on Albatross One[]
- "What I did was I came upstairs and I went through the notebooks and I found Albatross number one and I took it out back ... and I handed the Albatross number one to Rollie and I said can you scan this whole thing and take it and the scans to Studio Comix Press and have them do up a facsimile of it. It's a ... spiral ring notebook ... We tell Alonso to bind it that way, but basically print it in color because it's got a green cover and it's got some water coloring inside. I don't know if the ink started out as black, some of the early ink is definitely a bluish color ... just as close to a facsimile of Albatross number one."[1]
