Cerebus (originally Cerebus the Aardvark) is a comic book series by writer/artist Dave Sim, centered on the character of Cerebus, an anthropomorphic barbarian aardvark. It was published from December, 1977 to March, 2004 by Aardvark-Vanaheim. From Cerebus No. 65 until the final issue, No. 300, Gerhard provided backgrounds for the title. For roughly the first eight years (Cerebus No. 1 through Cerebus No. 71), the official title of the comic was Cerebus the Aardvark.
Beginning with Cerebus No. 26, the ongoing story was told in a series of multi-issue storylines with occasional "in-between" issues.
The series has since been reprinted in Swords of Cerebus, a series of phonebooks, several bi-weekly reprint titles and a "Remastered and Expanded" project.
