Story[]

"Mothers & Daughters 47"[]

Cerebus tries vainly to get his relationship with Jaka right by telling Dave to do this or that, but Dave says Jaka is planning on leaving him in less then a year's time. Dave says that "I can make her love you, but I can't make her love stronger than her need to be happy. . .or her instinct for self-preservation." So Cerebus tells Dave to make her happy to be with Cerebus no matter what. Dave then shows Cerebus hitting Jaka in the face and she is saying how she is sorry, she is just so happy to be with him. Cerebus thinks he understands why that wouldn't work, and says "if Cerebus hits Jaka all the time she'll end up looking uglier than she looks with her hair cut short. Cerebus hadn't thought of that." So he asks Dave to make it so she is happy to be with Cerebus all the time, and makes it so Cerebus never hits her again or threatens to hit her again.

Time passes and Cerebus is watching his new neighbor, Joanne, hanging laundry with her breasts almost falling out of her dress. Cerebus puts on his blue sweater, because Jaka says it makes him look thinner, and goes out in the hot summer sun to look at the leaves in his yard. He does this for the next couple of days until Joanne comes over and asks if he is hot in that sweater. The two make small talk, Joanne mentions that she is married to a guy name Fred. The two continue these meetings, talking about various things, until one night they have sex outside their houses.

After the deed, Cerebus heads home, clutching his back from the pain. At the door, he finds a note with his name on it in Jaka's hand writing.
