Death was a mystical being who attempted to manipulate Cerebus in order to gain the Chaos Gem.[1]
History[]
According to the Judge's Evil Twin, "Death" was, in fact, a mouse-fraternity demon during pre-Sepran totemistic Estarcion, who rose in divine rank through nefarious means, eventually becoming the patron of music, poetry and the arts. In a few regions, he even ousted the importance of his deital father, Tarim, by co-opting the identity of Belinus, intellectual God of Light. But thanks to his unscrupulous methods of ascension, he became paranoid, which entities associated with him exploited. Fearful, but also omniscient, he used his great powers to take on the identity of Death. As Death, he was able to view the world's acts of violence and destruction, gloating over them as personal triumphs, but he failed to ever properly utilize the influence the position gave him in these events. This would lead to his eventual legacy in the hierarchy of realities as being remembered as the least productive and most powerful being to ever have existed.
Aware of the pitfalls of total role submersion, Death supposedly created a being that looked identical to the Judge, implanting within him the knowledge of his true history in the event of the Apocalypse.
Seeking the Chaos Gem, which was then in the possession of Cerebus, Death manipulated him into an encounter with Elrod, which only led to Cerebus tossing the gem down a well.
After 7,007 years, 4 months and 7 days as Death, the false Judge arrived and revealed to him his history, not due to an approaching Armageddon, but because the twelve gem-disguised succubi he kept had finally drained the last of his life essence. This revelation came too late to do anything, leading to Death ceasing to exist, save for a pile of robes and his hourglass.[2]
Dave told Cerebus that this "bogus Death" was just a manifestation of Cerebus closing the door on his destiny when he sold his helmet.[3]
Suenteus Po wore robes and an hourglass identical to Death's so that he would remain unmolested as he travelled to the Church in Iest.[4]
