Rick Nash talking to Oscar
Rick Nash is a man from the Lower City of Iest. For a time, he was married to Jaka Tavers. Eventually, he forms a cult following the completion of The Book of Rick.
History[]
Rick and Jaka were together until he learned that she had aborted what would have been their male child. Rick reacted by smacking Jaka, which led to his punishment by Mrs. Thatcher. Rick had his finger broken and Jaka was sent away.
Later, in Cerebus' bar at the Wall of T'si, Rick sees Mrs. Thatcher and goes into a panic. When Cerebus orders Mrs. Thatcher out of the bar, Rick becomes Cerebus' devotee and he begins to write The Book of Rick, in which Cerebus is seen as a prophet.
Rick later falls in love with Joanne, and the triangle between him, Joanne and Cerebus causes some strife amongst the trio. Rick eventually breaks up with Joanne and ends his friendship with Cerebus, putting a Binding spell on Cerebus. Rick then tells Cerebus he will see him one last time.
While traveling with Jaka to Sand Hills Creek, Cerebus dreams of Rick on the river bank overseeing babtisms. Cerebus wakes to find them passing Rick along the river.[1] He later dreams of Rick, who tells Cerebus that he has been executed by the Cirinists and gives Cerebus instructions and directions to follow.[2]
Many years later, as Cerebus' soul left his body following his death, Cerebus had a vision of "the light" with many of the people he had met, including Jaka, Bear, the Roach and Lord Julius waiting for him. Assuming they are in Heaven, Cerebus goes to join them, until he realizes he does not see Rick, which makes him fear he is going to Hell.[3]
